The practical test is simple: when a doctor writes a prescription, does the pharmacy see it, does the stock move, and does the bill attach itself to the same record — without anyone typing it a second time?

If the answer is no, you have an EMR surrounded by other software, and the reconciliation work stays with your team.

How to evaluate an HMS before you buy

Bring your real workflow to the demo rather than watching a scripted tour. Ask the vendor to run one full day of your facility through their system — a booking, a consultation, a prescription, a dispense, a bill and a claim.

• Does one action ever need to be entered twice?
• What happens when a bill has to be cancelled — is there a review workflow?
• Can a pharmacist see only pharmacy screens, and an auditor only what they need to review?
• How is historical patient and stock data migrated?
• What does going live actually look like, week by week?
